April 2014 – I held my second workshop at Sale Moor Methodist Church on the 26th April, we were embracing opposites in order to find balance in our practice and in our lives.  It’s so lovely to meet up on a sunny Saturday morning and have 2 hours to go into a bit more detail and cover a little bit more theory.  We also enjoy a cup of tea, fruit and treats after the class.  The next workshop will be towards the end of the summer.

As well as being BSY trained in Children’s Yoga, I am also now qualified through the brilliant Cosmic Kids Yoga, I am always wanting to develop my skills as a teacher in order to grow and improve.  I have also just completed a course in Buddhism, this has been something that had interested me for a long time, it has in fact raised many more questions for me about life (and death) and I hope to study the subject further.

March 2014 – Tues lunchtime class (12-1pm) relocates from The Islamic Centre, Hale to Red Sky Yoga Studio, Washway Rd, Sale (next to Amblehurst Hotel) This class is term time only and is £5 per session.  It is a gentle class for mixed abilities.  The first date at the new venue is Tues 1st April.

February 2014 – New Class at LA Fitness, Brooklands.  Every Friday 12noon-1pm, starts on 7th Feb.  This is for LA Fitness members only.

January 2014 – New Website!  As you can see I have revamped my website (with lots of help from my husband!)  The calendar page links directly to my Go Fitty calendar, just click on the date to check the class is on.  I have also got a Flickr account – see link to the right, you will see my attempt at some more advanced postures – but rest assured most of these more complex postures are not taught in my classes, the photos are just to show how my practice is progressing (or not as the case may be!)  There are also some lovely photos of the fantastic people who attend my classes, I hope it gives an idea of how friendly and welcoming the classes are……

December 2013 – Detox and Revive Yoga Workshop Sat Dec 28th 10am-12noon— Sale Moor Methodist Church, Northenden Rd.  Price £10 (deposit of £5 to secure your place)  Limited places.

September 2013 – Yogi Claire & Family in the local press!! The Manchester Evening News and their sister paper The Sale & Altrincham Advertiser have very kindly run a couple of stories on my Mum, my boys and me!  Although I have to say I think the boys and my Mum were the real stars of the articles.  To read the full article see the following link    Manchester Evening News Article

September 2013 – Introducing Parent & Toddler Yoga Classes* At last the time has come for me to put to use my Children’s Yoga teaching qualification and also share my experiences of yoga practice with young children as well as all the knowledge and insight I have gained from attending Parent and Toddler groups over the past years.  Not to mention the 18 week Mum and Baby yoga classes which my eldest son and I adored.  Culminating in what I hope will be some really exciting Parent & Toddler Yoga classes using songs, games and stories all with a yoga theme.

I realise how valuable classes can be for Mums who decide to stay at home or for Mums who work part time (and Dads too!)   It can add structure to your day and also as these classes are for the parent/carer too, then some skills for dealing with stressful situations may be learnt, as well as helping you to keep active!  I plan to include some fun breathing exercises into the classes which can be practiced by the toddler and the adult.  These may be invaluable when faced with a cranky, tantruming toddler—which is an inevitable part of being a parent!

The classes will be lively and the level of participation by both adult and child is entirely up to them, if some children are a little reticent to join in at first they will be encouraged to watch and only take part when they feel confident.  (I have first hand experience of this!)  Most children however are eager to participate in the physical postures and the names of postures and the songs that go with them will truly captivate your child’s imagination.

There will be elements of turn taking and children will be introduced gently to some ‘mindfulness’ when we eat our fruit snack which will be provided.

The classes will be very informal and may be a little noisy at times, but we will attempt a little bit of relaxation time at the end of each class!!  See the last page of this website for further benefits of yoga for kids.

Classes are held every Monday 10.15-11am (term time only) in the function room at LA Fitness/Brooklands Sports Club, Whitehall Rd, Brooklands, Sale.  Accessed through the café bar so you may want to stay for a cappuccino afterwards!  There is buggy space and there is a large car park.  Cost  is £5 per session (block booking discounts available)

November and December 2012

First Aid Course
On November 6th I attended a First Aid course, run by First Aid Training Stockport.  We covered many areas including CPR on adults and children, diabetes, sprains and strains, anaphylactic shock, cuts, choking etc. As a Yoga teacher I felt it was necessary for me to have some form of First Aid training as the only training of this type I had done before was the Baby Savers course.  I now believe that everyone should have a basic knowledge of first aid.  I can wholeheartedly recommend the course that I attended – you never know when you may need to put your knowledge into practice.

David Sye – Yogabeats Workshop
On November 15th I attended a workshop run by David Sye – it is a very different approach to yoga, like me he believes a yoga class should be fun, exciting and that attendees should leave the class with a smile on their faces!  If everyone is relaxed and happy during the class then I believe that they can really benefit more from their practice.  David really believes in smashing the ego and getting away from the idea that a yoga class is austere and serious.  I learnt so much from him and hope I can carry some of this new knowledge through to my classes to keep them exciting and interesting.

Forever Living Products
I am still a distributor of Forever Living Aloe Vera products.  The Aloe Vera drinking gel is really helping many of my friends and family who have digestive problems.  I am also seeing good results from the Aloe Vera lotions and creams for people with skin problems including eczema and dermatitis.  Ask me if you would like to borrow a brochure to look at in your own time – no pressure!

Collection for Society for Abandoned Animals
I have already taken down a boot-full of cat food for the poor abandoned cats at what was formerly the Peggy Henderson Sanctuary on Dane Rd.  So many class members have donated – a big thank you from me and the kitties!!  I am still collecting so please give me any unwanted cat food as they are still in great need, as are all charities at this time.

Sale Moor Methodist Class Price Rise
Since I began the class on Thursday evenings almost 2 years ago I have never increased the price of £4.50 as I believe cost should be no barrier to practicing yoga.  However my room hire has increased again (I did absorb the last price increase) so from Jan 2013 I will be reluctantly increasing the cost to £5 per session.  All other classes will remain at their current price.

New Class! Sept 2012—On Wed 12th Sept
I started a new class at East Didsbury Methodist Church on Pars Wood Rd, this runs Weds 1.30pm-3pm and is a slow paced, gentle class with chair posture alternatives.  This runs term time only and will be priced at £5.00 per session.

Sept 2012 – I took part in a Trafford Recovery event at Longford Park.  This was a positive event to help people and their families who are on their journey to recovery from substance misuse.  I was there to demonstrate some yoga and to chat to people about how yoga can help them both physically and mentally.  It was a wonderful and rewarding event to take part in—see my Facebook page for the photos—my kids came along to support me and did some of their own unique style of yoga!

Sept 2012— I was asked to take part in a Ladies Pamper Evening in Sale in aid of the Meningitis Trust, wow—what a glamorous occasion!  I had a laptop presentation giving details of our yoga classes and also had  my range of Forever Living products for everyone to try.  It was a lively, fun evening and the best part was the massive £4700 raised for the charity, and  I think the ladies of Sale all had a fabulous time!

Sept 2012 – I made a donation of £35 to Friends of Walkden Gardens as part of Gaynor Mullin’s outdoor yoga sessions in the gardens.  On the days when it was too wet for Gaynor to teach her outdoor sessions I offered to donate half my session price for any students who came to my Tues evening class instead.  It has been a very wet summer but the sessions that went ahead in the gardens were wonderful, and I was lucky enough to teach the last one of the season—which ended with beautiful sunshine.  So let us hope that next summer is a little dryer and more sessions can go ahead!!

March 2011 — An article was written about me ad my Mum in the Sale and Altrincham Messenger! For the full story click here
